When I learned on the morning of February 24, 2022, that Russia had started a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, I was horrified. I wanted to help, but I didn’t know how, and I felt helpless. But how brave you turned out in the fight against Russia!
When I heard President Zelenskyy’s words “I need weapons, not evacuation,” I decided to do everything possible to help you. In early March 2022, I sent clothing and sleeping bags for your soldiers. As a sign of solidarity, I hung the Ukrainian flag in my living room window, next to the German flag. I participated in a rally in Hamburg in March 2022, calling on the Chancellor of Germany to boycott Russia and create #NoFlyZoneUA. Subsequently, I continued to repeat the calls in numerous tweets, and later insisted on the transfer of Leopard tanks.
